At a time when science fiction and scientific research seem to mingle in the hope of producing an augmented human being, h- is instead a dystopian vision, which distorts the memory between body and identity in a search for un-body. Through plastic manipulations based on photography, I have manhandled and mangled the concept of body. I try to restrict it to mathematics: geometric areas looking for the limit of the abject. Blurring the signified to see a new signifier emerge. What arises from this discomfort? How long do we need to remember a body? I also play with the symbols of photography as mechanical tool. Mirrors, prisms and layers of plastic make clear vision difficult and distort reality; they are an index of this primordial underlying aspect of my work, which is interrogate photography as medium, is it a tool to fix our memories or an apparatus to create new ones no more linked to the past, or the time itself? www.ceciliagalera.com
