Book review by Dana Stirling |

In "Second Time Around," Susan Rosenberg Jones takes readers on an intimate journey through the complexities of grief, love, and the unexpected joys of finding love again later in life. Having endured the loss of her first husband after an illness, she shares her personal experiences of navigating the sea of emotions that accompany widowhood.

Through heartfelt images, Susan eloquently captures the raw and often conflicting feelings of guilt, loneliness, and cherished memories that permeate the grieving process. Yet amidst the pain, she discovers a glimmer of hope as she ventures into the world of online dating in search of companionship. I cannot relate personally to this story, but I am sure so many people can, and I am sure these feelings are universal and could be daunting. Susan, in her personal vulnerability, opens the door to this conversation and shining a light on a subject so many people face, live and might be afraid to share.

After Exploring online dating on JDate, Susan met Joel, a man who would soon become her second husband. Their instant connection defies expectations, leading to a romance ending in a heartfelt wedding ceremony at home. What emerges is a beautiful testament to the resilience of the human spirit and the capacity to love again, even in the face of loss.

One of the most captivating aspects of "Second Time Around" is Susan’s candid reflection on the dynamics of starting anew in her sixties. With humor and grace, she navigates the challenges of blending two lives together, complete with the inevitable quirks and baggage that come with age and life experience. Through it all, she celebrates the profound depth of her love for Joel while honoring the memory of her first husband.

As the pages unfold, readers are invited to witness the ordinary moments of everyday life through the lens of newfound love. From the mundane to the extraordinary, each anecdote serves as a reminder of the preciousness of life and the importance of cherishing every moment. "Second Time Around" is not just a story of love reclaimed, but a testament to the resilience of the human heart. Through its pages, readers will find solace, inspiration, and a renewed appreciation for the beauty of second chances. With sincerity and grace, it reminds us that while life may be short, love has the power to transcend time and circumstance.

These images are soft, filled with a glowing warm light, they make you smile, they make you giddy at the opportunity to have a glimpse into a shared connection between two people. There is a feeling of admiration for one another, having the camera document small intimate moments that become a bigger metaphor for not only what relationships are, but about joy and finding the light within a adversity, if of grief and loss or any other hardships someone might face – there is a second chance, there is another life to live regardless you just need to be bold and make that JDate account, meet a new person, fall in love again.
